Private piano lessons are sessions of individualized instruction at the piano. Goals and lesson plans are prepared uniquely to each student’s desires as a musician. All students, whether serious or recreational will gain a fundamental knowledge of music reading and piano technique.
A studio calendar will be provided each semester, which should be referred to for important studio dates and events. Studio information and news can also be found at the studio website, www.notesfromnatalie.com.
Students are required to own or have daily access to a suitable acoustic piano or digital keyboard for practice. The keys of the acoustic piano or digital keyboard must be full-sized and functional with all 88 keys. Toy pianos and keyboards are not acceptable.
Students must also trim fingernails the appropriate length to play the piano. Long and/or fake nails can be beautiful, but they make it impossible to play accurately.
The student’s consistent attendance and preparation for each lesson is crucial for progress when learning the piano. Please do not schedule other appointments during lesson time. Excessive absences may be grounds for termination from the studio. In the event of an extraordinary circumstance in which the student cannot attend lessons for an extended length of time, the student’s spot in the studio may be held at the discretion of the instructor.
Students are expected to practice on a daily basis throughout the week in between lessons. Repertoire, technical exercises, and occasional theory homework will be assigned at each lesson. The amount of practice time expected is determined by the level and goals of the student, therefore practice instructions will be given at each lesson for the following week.
The schedule does not always allow for make up lessons. Therefore it is necessary to attend every lesson unless unable due to extreme illness or emergency. If the student has a fever or a contagious illness, please call to reschedule rather than send germs to the studio! If a make up lesson is unable to be scheduled, then the amount for the missed lesson will be subtracted from the following month’s tuition.
In the event that the instructor is unable to teach a lesson due to illness or emergency, the lesson will be rescheduled at a later date or a lesson credit may be issued for the following month.
In some cases, rather than rescheduling a lesson, the lesson can continue as scheduled via skype if available to the student. Please mention upon registration if this is an option for you.
In the event of a severe weather emergency, such as heavy snow, lessons may be cancelled and made up at the discretion of the instructor and the parent(s). Please be sure to watch for an announcement through e-mail, phone, and the studio website. In this case, the lesson will be made up at a later date or a lesson credit may be issued for the next month.
If a student wishes to discontinue lessons before all pre-paid lessons have been given, the payment shall be forfeited to the studio and no refund will be given.
